Common Centsys Gate Motor Problems

Gate Won't Respond to the Remote

By far the most common complaint. Nine times out of ten it's a flat remote battery or a receiver that lost its programming after a power blip. Less often, it's a failed receiver module inside the motor housing, or interference from a nearby device on the same frequency.

LED Flashing a Fault Pattern

Centsys control boards report faults through a flashing LED — the number of flashes and the colour point to a specific issue, such as a blocked safety beam, a limit fault, or a battery problem. The exact meaning varies between models and firmware versions, so it's worth counting the flashes and noting the colour rather than guessing.

Gate Stops or Reverses Mid-Travel

Usually a safety beam (photocell) that's dirty, misaligned, or blocked — spiderwebs, plant growth and knocked brackets are the usual culprits. It can also mean the gate has hit something in the track, or that the force/obstruction settings have drifted and need recalibrating.

Motor Hums But the Gate Doesn't Move

Points to a stuck gate (fouled track, debris, a jammed rack and pinion), or an internal fault with the motor's drive components. Don't keep triggering the remote when this happens — repeated attempts put unnecessary strain on the motor while it's already struggling.

Gate Only Works Sometimes, or Dies After a Blackout

  • Swap the remote battery. Cheapest, fastest check — try a known-good battery before assuming the worst.
  • Wipe the photocell lenses. A soft cloth over the safety beam sensors clears dust, webs and grime that can block the beam.
  • Check the isolator switch and power supply. Confirm the motor still has mains power and the isolator hasn't tripped.
  • Look for obvious obstructions. Check the track and gate path for anything blocking movement — a branch, gravel build-up, or a toy.
  • Note the LED pattern. Count the flashes and colour before calling — it helps a technician arrive with the right part already in hand.
  • Try a power cycle. Switching off the isolator (or disconnecting the battery) for about 30 seconds and reconnecting clears some minor faults. If the problem comes straight back, stop there.

Anything past the checks above — opening the motor housing, adjusting force or limit settings, reprogramming the control board, or working near mains wiring — is not a DIY job.
