Common Faults

• Gate won't open or close, or stops partway along the track
• Motor runs but the gate doesn't move — often a worn drive gear or slipping wheel on the rack
• Open/close limits drift or need resetting after a power outage
• Rack misaligned or pulling away from the gate frame
• Safety beams out of alignment, causing the gate to stop or refuse to close

Repair vs Replacement

A worn drive gear, a slipped rack or a tripped limit setting are usually straightforward repairs. A motor that has failed electrically, or one that's been straining against a heavy or poorly rolling gate for years, is more often a replacement. • Single or double-arm operators losing power or stalling mid-swing
• Gate binding or meeting resistance — often a hinge, post alignment or ground-clearance issue rather than the motor itself
• One leaf of a double gate out of sync with the other
• Arm or ram disengaged from the gate
• Safety devices (photocells, edge sensors) not stopping the gate on obstruction

Repair vs Replacement

Mechanical resistance from a dragging gate, a sagging hinge or a post that's moved is worth fixing before touching the motor — an operator working against that resistance will fail again quickly even if repaired. Where the motor itself has failed electrically, replacement with a correctly sized operator for the gate's weight is the more durable fix.
